Team B (John Mac) vs Team C (Deemo)  2nd February 2022

Skips log : Star date 2nd February  2022

Time        :  18.00hrs

Location  : Ice sheet 1

Rinks  : ‘C’ ‘Deemo’, ‘Hoss’, ‘I don’t believe it’; ‘Hi Dee Hi’

‘B’ ‘Maverick’; ‘Snudge’; ‘Round them up’ ‘The Scalpel’.

The players were congregating on the balcony surveying the empty sheets of ice being finalised for play – we were on the dreaded sheet ‘1’. Would the stones fall out on the clockwise turn when heading away from the bar end? Would there be a corresponding ‘big swing’ on the clockwise turn heading towards the bar end?

Fresh territory for us all so we shall just need to ‘suck it and see’. A quick head count shows that some players are still to arrive and do their ‘warm up routine’ ( ?????? ), a mobile phone rings and is answered – ‘who’s there? ‘Me’ was the reply. ‘We are stuck in traffic on Queen Street and will be there as soon as we can’ – ‘Snudge’ and ‘Round them up’ might be late – a calculator started up in the back ground working out potential penalty shots!!!!! How unsporting. The travelling duo arrived with minutes to spare, looking unflustered and we took to the ice, the calculator cast aside as redundant and in the interests of fair play.

Rink ‘B’ still without their charismatic skip ‘Lucky MacCornerkicky’ were led out by the ‘ Maverick’ while ‘Deemo’ led out his rink of ‘Deemons’.

The rinks traded single shots going with the hammer in the first two ends – the ice was running true and it had the potential to be a close and testing affair. The third end saw a spread of shots round the outer rings for rink ‘Deemo’ – were they lying 6 shots? Deemo played his final shot which went further than the intended guard and drew into the centre. The ‘Maverick’ was left with a shot to follow ‘Deemo’ and cut back the count but if fell a little short and left the head intact – a count of seven.

A two at the next end saw rink ‘Deemo’ ten shots to one up. ‘Maverick’ and his rink pulled back a single at the fifth end but singles at ends six and seven ( yes seven) for rink ‘Deemo’ secured the win and we retired to the bar to enjoy a ‘wee libation’ and where we met up with ‘Family Hoss’ who were eager to collect ‘Papa Hoss’ to mosey into town for a birthday celebration!

We hope they enjoyed their Italian repast just as much as we enjoyed our outing on the ice. Sweepers and players gave their all – much appreciated.

Our collective thoughts go out to Lucky ‘MacCornerkicky’ and hope that we see him back on the ice before too long.

The match as remembered by?

‘Deemo’
