Rinks: C ‘Round them up’ v. A ‘Deemo’
‘Match 4 of 15 in the Main League!’
Both rinks took to the ice with one notable exception (but more of that later), Rink ‘C‘ fielding ‘Round them up’ at skip with ‘?????????’ at 3rd, ‘Scalpel’ at second and ‘Snudge’ as the sharp point in an attack-minded formation. Rink ‘Deemo’ were fielding ‘The Maverick’ at third (back from his choral duties) and ‘Ivor the Engine’ in at second but with ‘Newsprint’ missing at lead, we had super-sub ‘Flour Power’ to kick us off.
After two ends ‘Deemo’ was off to a three shot lead and determined not to lose the initiative; to use a slightly modified Gordon Gekko catch phrase – big scores are good! However, it would appear that ‘Round them up’ and his squad had other ideas and struck back with a 4 in the third end – that was not in the script.
Rink ‘Deemo’ girded their collective loins and struck back in the 4th end counting two shots to edge into the lead again. ‘Round them up’ had the bit between his teeth by now and countered with a single in the 5th end to square the match at five shots apiece – things were getting tetchy.
‘Deemo’ now with the hammer struck back again with two shots in the sixth to go two shots up, the time clock counting down with the seventh end looking as if it would run us out of time and ‘Round them up’ having the hammer. For ‘Deemo’ it was all about running the opposition out of stones with them lying one shot to the good – the clock buzzer sounded and it was all down to ‘Round them up’ with his final stones to try and conjure up a second shot through the defensive wall that surrounded the head – it was not to be and rink ‘Deemo’ secured their third win of the season by a single shot.
However, a three shot penalty was added and the score sheet saw Rink ‘Deemo’ claim the victory 10 shots to five. Penalty shots you might ask, yes – ‘Geemo’ had been reclining at home doing stretching exercises and getting the all-important rub down with mystic oils, thinking the match was at the later start time – arriving just in time to take part at the second end it was a costly time mistake, thankfully not one that tipped the result against his rink but certainly not an episode to be repeated.
A relaxing ‘gargle’ was enjoyed after the game with some catching up on happenings over the summer period – Geemo had to rush off so we never found out what ‘mystic oils’ were in use that night!!!!!!
Bye for now.
Deemo
