A NEW STYLE OF DELIVERY…..
Although I forgot a lot of what went on, a few points managed to stick, so herewith my report.
Fresh from our defeat from the super team Deemo, we were hoping to turn things around. We had the benefit of Colin standing in as lead. Things started off well with us winning the toss and playing blue. David Dunsire was unable to get a sub, so Rob had only Fiona and Alan in support.
The first ended up with us failing to advantage the hammer and going down to a steal of 1.
Back on track with a 2 but followed up with a repost from Rob to level.
Fourth end started off well with Colin laying down excellent stones and Billy following with equally good deliveries. The ice was showing huge swings and seemed slower than previous years resulting in loads of stones falling short. We managed to get our act together this time and unfortunately team Garner did not get the breaks, resulting in a five for us. Another single in the fifth signalled despondency in the opposition.
The sixth looked like it was going the same way as the fourth with blue stones mainly lying in the front of the house with mostly yellow and the odd blue a guddle out front. With my first stone, determined to put a bit more oomph into my delivery, managed to do a face plant, but heroically launched the stone in the rough direction of the house. Miraculously it landed roughly where it was supposed to. The consensus was that I should henceforward adopt this method. My second delivery was more standard and followed the first in to lie five. Rob’s first stone having missed, all depended on his last. He aimed at the mass of stones out front and with a complex series of deflections, laterally off a blue, he managed to promote a yellow into the front of the house and outcount three of our stones leaving us with a two.
Last end, policy to prevent the opposition scoring. A great stone from Colin place one on the button and protected. The opposition tried unsuccessfully to remove it, but placed one on the button but not quite counting. The lying stone was slightly exposed and my attempts to block the way in over curled massively and left a route clear for Rob. With his last stone he managed to touch the stone and move it a smidgen to allow his yellow to count.
