Card doesn’t show the penalty incurred by Team B for a player arriving after the end of the first end. Just to remind you all, the penalty is 3 points.
In trepidation after learning that Team Deemo, after looking to cruise through to a comfortable win on Friday, had an attack of complacency and went down to a resurgent Team Rob and gang. Surely, they would be super concentrating. Problems were increased by Hoss failing to make in an appearance. Frantic calls, he thought he was playing on Thursday. He is, but in the Province League. He still did not know who he was playing when he arrived just as the third end got underway. An extra three penalty points to contend with. The giant killers would slaughter us, turned out they had feet of clay, at least last night.
Still haven’t a clue how we managed to win through. Hadn’t expected to be writing a report so can’t remember the sequence of events.
We had Colin subbing for Billy, still sunning himself in the Canaries, and Alan Campbell volunteering for lead.
Having lost the toss, we nevertheless managed a two in the first end only for a repost from Demo to win a three.
We had a major problem, whenever we got a stone in the house and unguarded, Steve Laux, without fail, ruthlessly removed it, I think with 100% efficiency. We managed somehow to build up stones in the house, and even on occasions lying four, but demon Deemo managed to reduce the count.
Fortunately lying two in the final end with our stones lying against opposing stones on both sides of the four foot and cutting the one foot, we managed to protect them sufficiently to prevent readjustments from Deemo with his last stone. Nail biting stuff as with penalties we could have ended up with a draw. Mention in dispatches must go to Colin, who consistently drew into the house and caused problems to the opposition.
Ken.
