Team A (Rob Garner) vs Team B (Ken Herd)  2nd November 2026

Team Ken won the toss, and Team Rob – playing our full team for the first time at last – chose blue stones.

The first five ends all produced ‘one’ scores, strangely nearly all against the hammer.

End 3 required a measure, because the snazzy new house designs leave some segments without ring lines (!), so a bit of time was needed to check it was just a single.

End 6 broke the mould eventually.  Ken was lying one on the button, and lay a nice centre guard, but satisfyingly I managed an intentional double-raise take-out, blue onto that guard yellow, onto blue, then removing that button yellow, and lie to score two.

The bell rang about one minute after we began the next end. Fiona and Alan lay good stones, and then Dave’s take out removed the only yellow in the house.  The ice seemed to be slowing, so some short yellow deliveries just formed guards, and Ken’s last over-curled to just promote another blue.  So, a big score at last (but still against the hammer) ended it 9-3, in an otherwise silent, empty rink.

Rob.
